Next Poetry Evening: 18 June 2012, 7.30pm

Join us at The Jolly Cricketers on 18 June 2012 for a free evening of poetry with our featured poets James Byrne, Kayo Chingonyi, Emily Hasler, and Kirsten Irving.

James Byrne originally hails from Buckinghamshire. He is the editor of The Wolf poetry magazine, and the author of ‘Passage of Time’ (Flipped Eye) and ‘Blood/Sugar’ (Arc). He is the co-editor of ‘Voice Recognition: 21 Poets for the 21st Century’ (Arc) and editor of ‘Bones Will Crow: 14 contemporary Burmese poets’ (Bloodaxe).

Kayo Chingonyi has just released with Salt his long-anticipated début pamphlet ‘Some Bright Elegance’. He has performed all over the UK in venues and events such as the London Literature Festival, The RSC Swan Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, and Buckingham Palace.

Emily Hasler has published a pamphlet of poetry with Salt called ‘Natural Histories’. In 2009 she won second prize in the Edwin Morgan International Poetry Competition. Her poems appear in The Salt Book of Younger Poets and The Best British Poetry 2011.

Kirsten Irving is the co-editor of Sidekick Books, and the editor of the cult hand-made magazine Fuselit. Her pamphlet ‘What to do’ was published by Happenstance Press, and her full collection, ‘Never Never Never Come Back’ is coming out with Salt later this year.

The pub is a 5 minute walk from Seer Green station, which is a 20 minute train ride from London Marylebone. So no excuses not to come eternal city-dwellers!

The readings will be followed by an open mic. Do come and sign up for a slot!

April’s events

Thank you to everyone who came to our packed calendar of poetry events this April, whether it was the Salt Publishing reading at Beaconsfield’s library (with poets Liane Strauss, Tim Dooley and Chris Emery), or Tori Truslow’s poetry workshop, or our regular poetry & open mic night which has relocated to the Jolly Cricketers in Seer Green (with featured readings by Jonathan Steffen, Tori Truslow and Christine Webb). The event was reviewed by Melanie Gow for Annexe magazine.

Fast Culture #1

Thank you to everyone who made it last night, I think it’s safe to say it was a beautifully textured evening in a very atmospheric room! Thank you so much to poets John McCullough, Emily Hasler and Caroline Crew, who braved a series of trains to make it to us. Let’s hope this is the first of a monthly gathering, I will keep you posted!

Line-up Announced!

We can now confirm that the poets reading on our first night are John McCullough, Caroline Crew, Emily Hasler and Claire Trevien. We are extremely excited about this. Posts profiling these poets will soon follow.
